Abstract
This study explored if there were influence of teachers on adaptation of children who were cared in out-of-home service - foster care, group home and child care facilities. For this purpose, 260 children were surveyed and the data were analyzed. Factors of teachers which was independent variable consisted of teacher¡¯s attachment, teacher¡¯s support, bonding with teachers and psycho-social adaptation was used as dependent variable. Guardian¡¯s attachment and abusive experience from parents were used as control variables and self-esteem and happiness were used as mediating variables. The results were as follows. First, two groups which were divided by three factors of teachers were compared and the group with higher score of factor of teachers were significantly higher than the other in guardian¡¯s attachment, self-esteem, happiness and psycho-social adaptation except abusive experience which was not significant. Second, factor of teachers did not affect psycho-social adaptation directly but affect psycho-social adaptation through self-esteem and happiness indirectly. Third, guardian¡¯s attachment affect psycho-social adaptation through happiness indirectly as well as affect psycho-social adaptation directly. Fourth, abusive experience affect psycho-social adaptation directly but there was no indirect affect. These mean that the role of teachers is important to help children at out-of-home services enhance their ability of adaptation especially through self-esteem and happiness. Discussions and implications were made based on these findings.
